“This is going to be legendary”: Netizens react as BTS' RM becomes first K-Pop artist to collab with SFMOMA for art exhibition

BTS' RM is going to team up with San Francisco Museum of Modern, aka SFMOMA and curate an art exhibition, which will be organized next year. Kim Namjoon, aka RM, became the first K-Pop artist to partner with San Francisco Museum of Modern (SFMOMA) since its inception.

The museum first offered the initiative, noting RM's extensive collecting interests and passion of modern art. The exhibition is going to be co-curated by RM and the museum.

BTS' RM commented on his collaborative exhibition with SFMOMA in the following manner:

"We live in an age defined by boundaries. I hope this exhibition will serve as a space for reflection on the boundaries between East and West, Korea and America, modern and contemporary, and the individual and the universal."

He continued:

"While there is no set way to appreciate the exhibition, I hope it will serve as a small but strong bridge for many."

Fans seemed proud of Namjoon’s upcoming exhibition. Consequently, his followers flooded the internet with appreciation for the BTS leader.

More details about BTS' RM x SFMOMA art exhibition

Kim Namjoon and SFMOMA’s exhibition is set to kickoff in October 2026 exclusively at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

For the first time, fans can view RM's own art collection. This display, which will be presented solely in the United States at SFMOMA from October 2026 to February 2027, will put together 200 pieces from the collections of RM and SFMOMA, providing a unique opportunity to witness modern Korean creations in conjunction with modern art collected from all over the world.

In addition to pieces by several well-known contemporary artists with international bases, the assortment of RM includes works by important personalities of modern and contemporary Korean art, including Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong, and Chang Ucchin.

Along with complementary SFMOMA collection pieces from American and European artists such Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Paul Klee, as well as Korean artist Kim Whanki. Namjoon and the museum will draw attention to the themes and resonances between these pieces.
