Sydney Sweeney's bathwater soap sold out within seconds of its launch today— and fans are astonished.
The actress announced that she would be selling 5,000 soaps made out of water drawn from her bath, named “Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss," in collaboration with Dr. Squatch. NBC Philadelphia has reported that the soap comprises pine bark extract, exfoliating sand, and drops of the bath water.
These went up for sale today for $8, and within seconds of their launch, the website sold out, and the bars went out of stock. Suffice it to say, the internet is confused. While some online are lamenting having missed out on the chance to buy one themselves, a few feel like the soap was a bit much.
Others are commending the Euphoria actress for capitalizing on herself, such as this one user who penned on X:
"unsurprising, she knows her value"
Here's how the rest of the microblogging platform is reacting:
"The resell market will probably go crazy too, people go hard for Sydney Sweeney," someone pointed out.
"Put everyone who bought it on a watch list," another quipped.
"best purchase i ever made," one more chimed in.
"NOOOOO, WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME IT WAS TODAY!!!" yet another exclaimed.
Even more chimed in to react strongly:
"Sydney Sweeney’s bathwater soap sold out INSTANTLY? The power of celebrity marketing is wild," one user chimed in.
"Is it just clever marketing, pure hype, or is there something we’re all missing here?" another asked.
"People probably thinking it’s actually her bath water lol," someone else claimed.
"Noooooo where’s mine at," yet another user penned.
Comments online were visibly varied, ranging from fans of the idea to critics and trolls.
Here's everything we know about Sydney Sweeney's bathwater soap:
Sydney Sweeney's limited edition bars selling out within seconds not only shocked the internet, but even those in charge at Dr. Squatch. John Ludeke, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at the company, said in a statement:
"We saw checkout times shoot past 250 minutes. The site crashed multiple times, it was nuts."
The idea first stemmed from a commercial the actress did for Dr. Squatch, where she could be seen relaxing in a bubble bath. Not long after, the internet jokingly began calling for her to commercialize her bath water, with many even claiming they would use it to water their plants or have a swig of it in their morning coffee.
Sydney Sweeny, who quickly caught onto the news, said in a May 30 interview with NBC News:
"When your fans start asking for your bathwater, you can either ignore it, or turn it into a bar of Dr. Squatch soap."
The Emmy-nominated actress also took to Instagram to announce the news just last week:
"You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad… so we kept it. Introducing Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss! A very real, very limited-edition soap made with my actual bathwater.”
The company has been marketing the soap as “radiant, playful, and tempting.” Ludeke said while announcing the joint venture, per NBC Chicago:
"There’s no playbook for turning Sydney Sweeney’s actual bathwater into a bar of soap. But that’s exactly why we did it. This bar is bizarre, unexpected, and meant to get guys thinking more deeply about what they’re putting on their bodies.”
Bars of the soap have already made it to eBay, where they are reportedly being listed from $100 to as high as $1,000.
