United States President Donald Trump has officially confirmed that US forces have captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife following overnight military operations in Caracas. After the announcement, notable reactions poured in from global leaders, business figures, and others.

His X post translates to,

"❤️🇻🇪 Venezuela can now have the prosperity it deserves 🇻🇪❤️"

According to multiple reports, explosions were reported in Caracas on Saturday. Later, POTUS Donald Trump used his Truth Social account and a news conference to confirm that Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been seized and flown to the United States.

Viral footage showed a handcuffed person, who was identified as Nicolas Maduro, being escorted by US officials at Stewart International Airport in New York state. US authorities eventually confirmed that Maduro had arrived in Brooklyn and would be held at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

At an official news conference, Donald Trump said the United States would "run" Venezuela until a transition could be put in place. He said,

"We are going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition."

Trump also shared plans related to Venezuela's oil sector. According to POTUS, the goal is to generate revenue and stability. He stated,

"We are going to have our very large United States oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country."

Moreover, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Venezuelan leader faces charges including:

"narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the United States."

She added that Nicolas Maduro would

"soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts."

Notably, SpaceX's Starlink has officially announced it would provide free broadband internet service to Venezuela through February 3, 2026. The company said,

"Starlink is providing free broadband service to the people of Venezuela through February 3, ensuring continued connectivity."

Reposting Starlink's statement, Elon Musk wrote,

"In support of the people of Venezuela."

Who is Nicolas Maduro?

Nicolas Maduro has been in power since 2013, following the death of Hugo Chávez. He is a former bus driver and union leader. Over the years, his government has faced multiple coup attempts, mass protests, US sanctions, and more.

Washington has repeatedly accused Maduro of having alleged links to drug cartels. He has denied those. He also stated that the US was using the "war on drugs" as a pretext to remove him and gain control of Venezuela's oil reserves.

Reports suggest that a Justice Department official confirmed that Maduro is expected to make an initial appearance in Manhattan federal court.
