KISS guitarist Ace Frehley's cause of death has been unveiled weeks after his demise at the age of 74 was announced.

TMZ has reported that the legendary musician was taken off life support on Thursday, October 16. It has since been confirmed that he suffered a perilous fall, culminating in fatal blunt trauma to the head.

The Morris County, New Jersey Medical Examiner's report states that he had a fracture on the back of his skull, a subdural hematoma, and a stroke. His death was ruled an accident, the outlet further reports. He was surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, at the time.

Everything we know about Ace Frehley's demise:

Born Paul Daniel Frehley, Ace Frehley was one of the founding members of KISS, alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss. He stayed with the band from 1973 to 1982, but later left due to substance abuse issues and creative differences.

In a statement confirming his demise on October 16, his family said in a statement:

"We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace's memory will continue to live on forever!"

Ace Frehley was featured on KISS's first nine albums, though he also returned for its 1998 reunion album, Psycho Circus. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside the rest of the band's original lineup in 2014. His bandmates Stanley and Simmons also penned a joint statement at the time of his demise:

"We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley,” they wrote. “He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy. Our thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique, and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.”

Former KISS drummer Peter Criss echoed the sentiments:

“With a broken heart and deep, deep sadness, my brother Ace Frehley has passed away. He died peacefully with his family around him. My wife and I were with him to the end as well. I love you, my brother. My love and prayers go out to Jeanette, Monique, Charlie and Nancy, and all of Ace’s extended family, bandmates, fans, and friends. May the Lord comfort you at this difficult time. As a founding member of the rock group KISS and in Ace’s solo career, Ace influenced and touched the hearts of millions of people. His legacy will live on in the music industry and in the hearts of the KISS Army. At this time, I ask all of you to please be respectful to Ace’s family and allow them to grieve privately,” Criss concluded. “To the KISS Army and Ace’s Rock Soldiers, my heart is with you all… Broken…”

Back in September, two weeks before he died, Ace Frehley took to Instagram to share the news of his fall with fans. At the time, he described the accident as minor, adding that he would have to cancel his performances scheduled for the following day in Lancaster, California. He cited his doctor's orders at the time, though he later canceled the remainder of his 2025 tour dates.
