Wendy Williams has recently voiced her claims that her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey has prevented her from celebrating her reported medical clearance.

Page Six reported that the former talk show host was expected to have a dinner celebration following her medical clearance. Comedian Luenell and Williams' former show producer, Suzanne Bass, were looking forward to surprising her at Max Tucci's TUCCI restaurant.

However, the guardianship has limited her ability. An insider told the outlet,

“She couldn’t get in touch with her bodyguard. She thinks Sabrina may have dismissed him.”

Consequently, she is not allowed to go anywhere unless accompanied by her bodyguard or visited by her niece, Alex Finnie. This is part of the strict conditions imposed under her court-appointed guardianship, which has controlled most of her life since 2022.

According to a report in TMZ, she underwent a “battery of tests” in New York City after which her neurologist, Dr. Samuel Gandy determined that she does not have frontotemporal dementia.

When was Wendy Williams diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia?

Wendy Williams was officially diagnosed in 2023 with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Her medical diagnosis was announced by her team in February 2024. In a news release, the team said the conditions have already “presented significant hurdles in Wendy's life.”

The statement added:

“Wendy is still able to do many things for herself. Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed.”

According to Mayo Clinic, Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) mainly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain which are associated with personality, behavior and language.

In 2022, Wendy Williams was placed under temporary financial guardianship after her bank, Wells Fargo raised serious concerns about her financial well-being.

Recently, she underwent a new neurological evaluation by a top neurologist in New York City, which concluded that she does not have frontotemporal dementia, challenging her earlier diagnosis.

During her January appearance on The Breakfast Club radio show, Wendy Williams called her guardianship a “prison.” She said:

“I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s. I have breakfast, lunch and dinner right here on the bed. I watch TV, I listen to radio, I look out the window, I talk on the phone.”

She also told the hosts, Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy and Loren LoRosa, that she is “not cognitively impaired.”

Vibe reported that her attorney, Joe Tacopin, is now preparing to request a jury trial to determine whether Williams should be released from her court-ordered guardianship.

In the past, Wendy Williams has also shared about her diagnosis with Graves' Disease and Lymphedema and other significant health challenges.

Graves’ Disease is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, causing overproduction of thyroid hormones, leading to symptoms such as eye bulging, twitching, and fatigue.

Lymphedema is a chronic condition characterized by swelling in the soft tissues of the body due to a buildup of lymphatic fluid.
