In a surprising turn of events for the Norwegian royal family, eldest son Marius Borg Høiby has been accused of more than 20 crimes, including grievous bodily harm and assault.

As per The Guardian, Oslo police attorney Andreas Kruszewski stated that Høiby is suspected of 23 crimes in total, including r*pe.

The charges included one case of rape involving intercourse and two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm, Kruszewksi said at a news conference.

He further elaborated that the investigation, which took over 10 months to complete, has currently been handed over to the prosecutors, who will then make a call on whether or not they will press charges.

However, Marius Borg Høiby's lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, informed Norwegian national news agency NTB that her client rejected the three rape allegations. Høiby had previously admitted to assault and vandalism in 2024.

Additionally, in an email to the Associated Press, defense attorney Petar Sekulic notified them that Høiby has been 'absolutely taking the accusation very seriously but doesn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases.'

The Troubled Child

The son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, Marius has been under the scanner ever since his 'repeated' arrests in 2024 for s*xual assault and initial charges of bodily harm and damage.

In one of the statements 10 days after his arrest, Marius had said he had performed the acts 'under the influence of alcohol and cocaine' and had been suffering from 'mental troubles' and struggling with substance abuse.

As per local media reports, Marius Borg Høiby has been associated with gang members, Hells Angels bikers, and even the local Albanian mafia.

The 28-year-old member of the Osloenser aristocracy previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but has been living in a separate accommodation of late.

The State of the Monarchy

Marius Borg Høiby's antics have dampened the image of the monarchy; however, King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon still remain popular.

Interestingly, a December 2024 poll published by Norwegian broadcaster NRK showed 45 percent of people questioned agreed that their opinion of the royal family was not positive.

The royal palace has not yet commented on the matter.
