Raymond Boodarian was arrested on July 15, a day after the bodies of American Idol's Robin Kaye and husband Thomas Deluca were found with fatal gunshot wounds in their Encino home. Boodarian was charged with special murder and one count of residential burglary with a person present on July 17. His murder charges include the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder during the commission of a burglary, along with firearm allegations.

West Valley Division Officers had received a radio call for a welfare check in the 4700 block of White Oat Place. The person reporting mentioned that he had not heard from the residents for several days. When police made entry into the residence, they found both Robin Kaye and his husband, Thomas Deluca, dead.

As per police, homicide investigators interviewed the couple's friends and family, and reviewed numerous surveillance videos. They recovered evidence of a homicide at the scene. Police are still working on the evidence to understand if there was a possible motive for the murder, and clarified that the couple was killed on July 10.

More about the suspect charged in the Robin Kaye double murder

Suspect Raymond Broodarian, as per his neighbors, was a heavy drug user and had been arrested several times before. Broodarian, 22, lived in a condo, 13 minutes from Robin Kaye's residence. While speaking to The New York Post, neighbors said,

"We had a lot of problems with him because he's taking drugs. Every now and then he would be outside high. The neighbors complained and they come and arrest him."

Boodarian would reportedly also bring other druggies to get high with on the block. Another neighbor said,

"He would sit in front of my friend's house just staring and smiling. He did that on multiple occassions, sometimes in his own house, just looking out the window and smiling."

Boodarian was first arrested in October 2023 but was released the same day. He was taken into custody again in February 2024 and remained behind bars for six months, according to California inmate records. His previous arrests were linked to charges of brandishing a deadly weapon, battery, and making criminal threats with the intent to terrorize, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. However, the charges were later dropped due to concerns over his mental competency, according to NBC 4 Los Angeles.

Boodarian also appears to have been under a conservatorship, which indicates that a judge found him incapable of making decisions for himself. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is to decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Boodarian for murder charges against Robin Kaye and her husband.
