Wiz Khalifa may be looking at nine months in a Romanian prison for blazing a joint. The rapper was arrested and briefly detained back in July 2024. He was in town for a performance at Costinești's Beach Please! Festival at the time when he smoked a blunt, TMZ has reported. The BBC has reported that Wiz Khalifa, born Thomaz Cameron Jibril, admitted to smoking weed last year. He was consequently charged with possession of drugs and fined $700. Wiz Khalifa's run-ins with Romanian laws explored: This Thursday, Romania's Constanța Court of Appeal upheld the appeal filed by DIICOT Constanța Territorial Service, which is a prosecutor's office. It sought to sentence the "Young, Wild & Free" rapper to a few months in jail. As of this writing, his team is appealing the decision, the outlet has reported. Per the BBC, it is also unclear if the ten-time Grammy-nominated rapper is in the country currently, though he was previously spotted with Gunna in California for a performance. Back in July 2024, after he was arrested, he was reportedly questioned and eventually charged with possession of "risk drugs" for personal use. Authorities at the time accused him of possessing over 18 grams of weed and consuming more on-stage. In a written statement, the Constanța Court of Appeal judges asserted that they rescinded the original penalty as the rapper had sent "a message of normalisation of illegal conduct" and thereby encouraged "drug use among young people". They called his behavior an "ostentatious act", adding that Wiz Khalifa was "a music performer, on the stage of a music festival well known among young people" who "possessed and consumed, in front of a large audience predominantly made up of very young people, an artisanal cigarette". A day after he was arrested, the rapper took to X to issue a statement affirming that he did not mean to offend anyone in Romania: "They [the authorities] were very respectful and let me go. I'll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time." As of this writing, he has yet to issue a statement about his verdict, and the Rolling Stone has reported that the decision of the Constanța branch of Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT)'s appeal, which they won, is final under the Romanian law. It is also unclear if local authorities will try to extradite the rapper back into the country. Stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
