Charlie Kirk was slain after a shooting at a Utah Valley University event he was hosting.

Kirk, known for his right-wing conservative ideologies, was shot in the neck on Wednesday, September 10, as seen in several clips circulating online. Trump confirmed his demise in a tribute on his Truth Social platform. The incident took place on campus in Orem, Utah.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” Trump penned.

The late businessman, entrepreneur, and father of two reportedly had a net worth of $12 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. The latest developments in Charlie Kirk's shooting and consequent demise explored:

The university has since confirmed Charlie Kirk's demise in a post on X, which reads as follows:

“Today at about 12:10 a shot was fired at the visiting speaker, Charlie Kirk. He was hit and taken from the location by his security.”

University officials initially claimed that the investigators had taken a suspect into custody, though NBC News has since reported otherwise. Per the New York Times, the initial suspect, a man, has now been cleared.

“The police have determined that a person who was taken into custody after the shooting was not actually the shooter, according to Scott Trotter, a university spokesman. The university had earlier said a suspect was in custody, and videos online showed an older man being detained by police officers,” the New York Times reports.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the bureau is "closely monitoring" the situation.

"Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation," he penned online.
