Elon Musk has launched a companion mode, where users will be able to interact with two animated AI characters, as part of expanding the features of Grok AI. One of the characters introduced as part of the initiative is called Ani, who has an anime-like aesthetic to her look and is seen wearing a black dress with a corset. The other companion is a fox named Bad Rudy. There is a third character named Chad, which is currently in development and will be launched next.

According to Business Insider, before launching the companion mode, Elon Musk announced the launch of Grok 4 and SuperGrok Heavy just last week on July 9. These are both highly advanced versions of the Grok AI model and will be available only to users who have subscribed to the premium version of the Grok app.

More about the companion mode, as Elon Musk announced the launch of new Grok AI feature

On July 14, Elon Musk announced that as part of the new Grok AI model, SuperGrok Heavy, he was launching a set of new features that would allow users to interact with the "companions." According to Dexerto, this new feature can only be accessed if one subscribes to the $300 monthly SuperGrok Heavy upgrade. In his post announcing the launch of the companion mode, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

"Cool feature just dropped for @SuperGrok subscribers. Turn on Companions in settings."

According to Business Insider, on July 9, when Elon Musk launched Grok 4, through a livestream, he could be heard praising the intelligence of the new version, saying:

"[Grok 4 is ] smarter than almost all graduate students in all disciplines simultaneously."

The official xAI website reads:

"Grok 4 is the most intelligent model in the world. It includes native tool use and real-time search integration, and is available now to SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers, as well as through the xAI API. We are also introducing a new SuperGrok Heavy tier with access to Grok 4 Heavy - the most powerful version of Grok 4."

According to AP News, less than a week after the launch of Grok 4, which is priced at $30 per month, a new controversy surrounding it has developed. The results provided by the AI model are now reported to be mirroring views shared by Elon Musk, generating controversy among its users.

The companion mode, which is part of the SuperGrok Heavy, includes a voice feature that allows users to talk to the characters as they would with a real person, and also allegedly includes an NSFW version as well.
