Elon Musk while responding to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's tweet on August 7 said that his most advanced AI model, Grok 4 Heavy, outperformed OpenAI's newly launched GPT-5 two weeks ago:
"Bottom line though: Grok 4 Heavy was smarter 2 weeks ago than GPT5 is now and G4H is already a lot better. Let that sink in."
Musk's post comes hours after OpenAI unveiled GPT-5, it's most advanced AI model. The latest model is billed as "smarter, faster, and more useful."
In a string of tweets, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on August 7 warned Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about OpenAI claiming that it is "going to eat Microsoft alive." His tweet was in response to Nadella's update on Microsoft AI, which said:
"Today, GPT-5 launches across our platforms, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry. It's the most capable model yet from our partners at OpenAI, bringing powerful new advances in reasoning, coding and chat, all trained on Azure."
While responding to Musk's tweet, Nadella said:
"People have been trying for 50 years and that's the fun of it."
Musk also announced that xAI will be out with Grok 5 "before the end of this year."
How is Elon Musk's GROK 4 Heavy different that GPT-5?
Elon Musk in a recent tweet has claimed that his AI model, GROK 4 Heavy, is smarter than OpenAI's newly launched GPT-5. The two AI models have significant differences in reasoning. While Grok's access to fresh information from X, gives it an advantage in fast-moving situations like market news or breaking headlines, GPT5 has better reasoning and reduced hallucinations.
GROK also has a personality driven design, and gives more witty, and direct responses. Whereas, GPT-5 can handle text, images and other media in one conversation. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, claimed that GPT-5 boosts ChatGPT to 'PhD level':
"GPT-3 sort of felt to me like talking to a high-school student...4 felt like you're kind of talking to a college student. GPT-5 is the first time that it really feels like talking to an expert in any topic, like a PhD-level expert."
Grok4 is integrated into social media platform X, and it's premium version, Grok 4 Heavy is part of a $300 per month plan called SuperGrok, which gives users access to the model's full power. GPT-5, is available through OpenAI's platform, and is also expected to be included in ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise plans.
