KISS is mourning the loss of their longtime security guard, Danny Francis. The band's frontman, Paul Stanley, took to social media on Sunday, October 26, to confirm that Danny succumbed to a "brutal fight with liver cancer." The news comes days after the band's founding guitarist Ace Frehley died at the age of 74 on October 16. "Danny Francis, my dear friend, assistant and so much more for 30 years of tours and life has died after a brutal fight with liver cancer," Stanley wrote, alongside a photo of Francis. "He was loved by Erin and all my children and his kindness was given to everyone he came in contact with. My condolences to his entire family."KISS undergoes yet another loss as Paul Stanley confirms Danny Francis' demise: Read more View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAlternative Nation has reported that Michael "Danny" Francis began working with the band in the 1980s, starting out as a part of its touring crew. He eventually scaled the ranks to become the head of the band's security team, having flanked them for years. Back in May 2022, Classic Rock released a profile on Francis, noting that over the course of his career, he'd worked with several of the music industry's heavyweights, including Elvis Presley, Jon Bon Jovi, Cher, Paul McCartney, and Led Zeppelin. In his book, Star Man: The Right Hand Man of Rock 'N' Roll, he said of KISS' Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley that the two were "total professionals," while Frehley and Peter Criss were "the total opposite" of the other two. The Daily Mail has reported that fellow KISS employee Keith Leroux also paid his respects to Danny Francis with a photo of him and a lengthy, heartfelt caption: "Ah, what a terrible week in KISS World ... Only a few days after attending Ace's funeral, my dear friend Danny Francis has passed away. I'm sure most of my KISS friends here on Facebook know this gentle giant of a man from either meeting him backstage or at KISS meet and greets around the world. He always had a kind word and a welcoming demeanor for our guests and the fans." He added, "For me, Danny was the rock that always kept me grounded during the chaotic times on the road. He instilled in me probably 25 years ago..to always remain calm in any situation and to focus on a solution rather than panicking, something that my father had also told me growing up. And in many ways, Danny was a father like figure for me after my dad passed years ago. Their advice had a major effect on me to this day."Just days ago, Frehley's bandmates reunited for his memorial service. The musician had reportedly been on life support for weeks after he suffered a fall that culminated in a brain bleed. His wake was held in the Bronx in New York City. Simmons, Criss, and Stanley were all reportedly present, alongside former KISS manager Doc McGhee. Frehley's demise forced the band to axe the remaining tour dates they had lined up for this year. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Stanley and Simmons said that he was surrounded “with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth.” “I am devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy. My thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world," they wrote in a joint statement. Stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
