Chef and culinary producer Elle Simone Scott died at the age of 49 after a long struggle with cancer. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer almost nine years ago, in 2016. According to Deadline, Scott was the first black woman to appear as the regular host on America’s Test Kitchen. The news of her death was also shared by Carla Hall, who took to her Facebook and wrote:“Chef Elle Simone Scott was a friend, a force, and a trailblazer. She showed up with excellence, generosity, and deep love for food and community. At America’s Test Kitchen, Elle helped open doors that had long been closed - becoming one of the first Black women audiences saw in the test kitchen, and doing so with grace, authority, and joy.”Carla Hall went on to write:“She didn’t just test recipes; she changed what representation looked like in food media. Her voice mattered. Her work mattered. She mattered.”Hall touched upon the way Elle Simone Scott handled her cancer journey. She would raise awareness on social media to educate others about the disease. As concluding words, Hall wrote:“We honor you, Elle. Your legacy lives on in every kitchen you inspired and every cook who finally saw themselves reflected back. Rest well my sister.”The media outlet mentioned that Elle Simone Scott was a student of Eastern Michigan University. After that, she went to the Culinary Institute of New York. She helped them market the idea so that buyers could get an idea of why they should buy and eat those foods. She also said:“The coolest part about my job is that I get to show people how to make food look beautiful not only on their plates but also in an artistic way and I get to do that all over the world.”Talking about how she got interested in the field, Scott said:“The way I became interested in working with food is that I grew up in a family that actually cooks a lot and they cook very well and when I had an opportunity to choose a career it was something that I already knew how to do and I really enjoyed.”Elle Simone Scott said that one of the important lessons she got in school was the importance of listening. She said it was important to always listen before making a move. Additionally, it was important to read instructions before starting any task. She opined:“If you're interested in food I think it's important for you to learn every stage of food service prep that can be from washing dishes to maintaining the kitchen to prep work and prepping foods and vegetables to actually cooking food.”Elle Simone Scott said that one should learn from the beginning to the top.
