Hong Kong pop star Keung To, who performs with the popular boy band MIRROR, was rescued from the sea near the Central and Western District Promenade on June 24, 2025. This happened close to the Western Wholesale Food Market, a well-known spot where people often gather to relax.
Reports say marine police arrived quickly around 4:30 PM and pulled the 25-year-old out of the water. He was awake when they found him. He received initial help at the Central Government Pier and then went to a private hospital for further checkups. Immediately after the incident, Keung To posted a message on social media to let his fans know he was okay.
He used an Instagram Story to call the situation a "minor accident" and apologized for causing concern. He also said he would attend scheduled events the next day. In a separate message shared by manager Ahfa Wong, his management team confirmed his statement and asked people not to dwell on what happened.
Ahfa Wong Wai-kwan wrote,
“It was just my own carelessness, a minor accident happened. I’m fine, please don’t worry. I hope there won’t be any speculations. Really sorry for making everyone concerned. — From Keung To.”
The singer's Instagram story said,
“Don’t worry everyone. See you tomorrow.”
Even though they tried to calm everyone down, the event made people question how Keung To ended up in the water. The safety rails, which are about 1.3 meters tall, are supposed to prevent this kind of accident.
Questions arise over Keung To’s fall as investigation remains ongoing
Eyewitness reports indicate that Keung To was dressed casually, and his hat was found on the shore. An angler nearby, Mr. Lee, said that the singer appeared disoriented in the water, about 30 meters from land. Several people onshore tried to help by throwing a lifebuoy and guiding him until a nearby navigation boat, marked “23,” arrived to rescue him.
Public interest increased after comments from lawyer and social media personality Joseph Lam, who analyzed the location and questioned whether a simple fall was plausible. Lam pointed out that the barrier's height makes an accidental fall unlikely unless someone intentionally tries it. He noted that Keung To's own story and his management's statement didn't match, hinting they might need to provide more explanation.
Lam also raised concerns about legal and insurance issues. He wondered how someone feeling sick might get over the barrier. While he didn't jump to any conclusions, his thoughts fueled ongoing discussions on social media and news sites.
Officials haven't commented on foul play or whether it was intentional. Pictures showing the rescue have circulated online, but no one has verified their authenticity. The authorities haven't provided any additional details about their investigation.
Keung To started his solo career in 2019 after gaining fame from ViuTV's talent show Good Night Show—King Maker. As a key member of MIRROR, he continues to attract attention throughout Hong Kong and beyond.
