Former Sky Sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher has just opened up about a terrifying street assault that left her "in complete shock," injured and disturbed. While strolling alone in central London, the 49-year-old presenter reported being attacked by an unknown person in what she called a completely unprovoked act of violence. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostGallacher posted an emotional video and message on Instagram, explaining that in addition to sharing her story, she hoped to increase awareness of the growing street crime and to encourage others to exercise caution.According to the former Sky Sports presenter, the incident happened at around 7 p.m. while she was walking, a route she frequently takes, from work to her car. The area where the crime took place was well-lit and had people around, which made it even more difficult to believe that it happened. She described seeing a man in all black clothing approaching her:“I was walking on the pavement, and I noticed this guy, all in black, covered up, actually, just walking at me. And I’m always vigilant."When she tried to step aside to get away from him, it was then that the man gave her a hard rear kick after passing one another, which she described:“And he was just walking towards me, and so I moved out of the way, and then he brushed past me. He turned around, and he kicked me like he was kicking a football. He kicked me in the middle of a street at about seven o’clock last night, in front of people, and I turned around and he scarpered."Kirsty Gallacher added that she is still processing the attack:“I’m still shocked now, and I have the bruises to prove I’m afraid. I can’t quite believe what happened."She had stated that she had not interacted with the man and had also given him space:“I was not being provocative in any way. I was just going about my business as you do. I was just walking to my car to go back home to my family.”Before anybody could do anything to the man, he ran away and vanished.Kirsty Gallacher is disappointed with the bystander responseThe lack of reaction or any help from a security guard nearby disappointed her, Kirsty Gallacher said:“There was a security guard on a door nearby who was absolutely useless and didn’t do anything, which was hugely disappointing."Kirsty Gallacher added that she was lucky as two young girls saw the attack and rushed to help her right away:“I luckily had some witnesses, some lovely girls saw it and came to my aid. And I’m very grateful to those lovely girls. Hopefully they’ll see this, they might see this, but thank you, because you’re amazing."Gallacher is still in shock as to why somebody would do that to her:“And I just there, and I couldn’t actually believe that someone, a stranger, has just decided, for whatever reason, whether he’s a got a problem with women, whether he’s just an opportunist."She added:“He decided he did not like me, and he just thought, Now, give you the boot. And that is not okay. It’s not okay, it’s not okay.”Sharing her storyKirsty Gallacher said she wanted to share her story as such situations are “happening all the time”, and individuals frequently believe "it won't happen to me" and want people to “look after yourselves”:“It’s really sad that that is what’s going on on the streets of London, and that is very real. And we all hear about it, don’t we all hear like, Oh yeah, you know, be careful."She added:"Don’t have your phone out. And people being sadly, you know, mugged or worse, you know, awful, awful things going on, and you always think it’s not going to happen to me."Kirsty Gallacher went on to add that she was "very vigilant" and "very careful" while walking and took all the necessary precautions, but the incident still happened to her. Since it happened to her, and she didn't know what to do at the moment, she decided to share her experience so that no one has to go through something like that. Following the incident, many shared their support and concern for Gallacher, English comedian and actor, Paddy McGuinness, broadcaster and journalist, and MBE Kate Garraway were among the first to send their messages on social media, hoping Kirsty Gallacher was doing okay. Others soon followed, which included celebrities, Ben Shepherd, Rachel Brookes, Bianca Westwood and Annabel Croft.Stay tuned to Soap Central for more information.
