Detroit Lions athlete Morice Norris sustained a serious injury on August 8. Norris was taken off the field in an ambulance during the Detroit Lions-Atlanta Falcons pre-season game. Norris was trying to tackle Nathan Carter, when he appeared to take a blow to the head and neck area. He laid on the field for several minutes before being placed on a blackboard and loaded into an ambulance.
Morice Norris was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital via police escort. The Detroit Lions gave an update on the player's health status on August 8 night. In an Instagram post, the team announced:
"Morrice Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities. He will remain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation. We would like to thank the Atlanta Falcons organization, the EMS team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the doctors and staff at Grady for their support."
"We're just praying" - says Detroit Lions head coach Dan Cambell about Morice Norris' accident
Detroit Lions headcoach, Dan Campbell while speaking to the press about Morice Norris' incident said:
"He's at the hospital uh and I will have to just leave it at that. But obviously you know it, something like that happens it puts things in perspective. So we're just praying for now."
While answering a reporter's question, Cambell said, Norris is
"breathing and talking, that's good, he's got some movement, and now they're running more tests."
He also called the incident an "eye opener" and added that in moments like these, brotherhood gets closer, and all the team members, including from the opposition "kind of come together" to think about "another player." He also added that Morice Norris' mother is with him.
When asked how he would address his own team in the locker room in the aftermath, Raheem Morris, Falcon's head coach, said:
"It's tough to even talk to those guys because they are so emotional about the game and emotional about what we do and they have a lot of respect for the other players in this game and that was the ultimate show of it by the teams right there."
The game between Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcon was cut short. The two teams head coaches together decided that the game will not continue. However, all 22 players were sent out on the field and they stood together at the 50-yard line as the clock ran down.
Raheem Morris while talking about the decision to let the clock run without play action said that it was decided out of respect for the player's family and the Lions organization.
