Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband, from whom she filed for divorce in June 2020 citing "irreconcilable differences" died earlier this month. While the two fought over custody, spousal support, and property battles, Kelly was unaware that Brandon Blackstock was privately battling cancer.

In a Daily Mail article published on June 19, sources close to the couple noted that the singer had been feeling guilty over Blackstock's death and has been wondering if the divorce stress was detrimental to his health.

"Kelly is aware of talk that stress can impact the body and make someone more susceptible to cancer. Although the timing could be purely coincidental, she knows how much tension the divorce and lawsuits put on them. She doesn't blame herself but she's conscious that the double whammy of the divorce and the fact that he had to repay her millions of dollars was very tough on him."

They were married for seven years, from 2013 until their split in 2020. The divorce dragged on for more than a year before being finalized in March, 2022.

Another insider told the outlet,

"The stress that all this brought is not good for anyone's health,' said a second insider. 'She doesn't want to harp on about what this might have done for Brandon's health, but it does cross her mind"

More about Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock's divorce

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock were married for seven years before officially separating in 2020 and finalizing their divorce in March, 2022.

The two fought custody battles and Clarkson was awarded primary custody of their two kids, River Rose and Remington Alexander. Clarkson was also ordered to pay temporary spousal support of about $150,000 per month plus around $45,000 per month in child support during the proceedings. She also had to cover Blackstock's legal fees.

One of their biggest fights was over a ranch Kelly Clarkson owned in Montana, where Blackstock wanted to live permanently. Clarkson wanted to sell it since it was expensive to maintain. The court ultimately ruled that the ranch belonged to Clarkson and Blackstock was allowed to stay for a while as long as he paid the running costs.

Kelly Clarkson is returning to television with a special airing Tuesday night, following Brandon's death. Her pre-recorded broadcast is the first installment of a four-part series called Songs & Stories. It also features celebrity guests including Jonas Brothers, Gloria Estefan, Teddy Swims and Lizzo.
