Former ESPN and MSNBC contributor Keith Olbermann has issued an apology to Scott Jennings for his contentious posts on X.

Olbermann originally took to social media to hurl profanities at the CNN conservative commentator almost two weeks after Charlie Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University.

"You’re next motherf---er," he wrote, as seen in screenshots shared by Townhall columnist Dustin Grage. "But keep mugging for the camera," he added.

As reported by Fox News, Jennings shot back with screenshots of Olbermann's posts as he tagged FBI Director Kash Patel.

In a post on Tuesday, Keith Olbermann apologised for his comments, claiming that his posts were "misinterpreted."

"I apologize without reservation to [Scott Jennings]. Yesterday I wrote and immediately deleted 2 responses to him about Kimmel because they could be misinterpreted as a threat to anything besides his career. I immediately replaced them with ones specifying what I actually meant," Olbermann wrote. "I oppose and condemn political violence, and the threat of it. All times are the wrong time to leave even an inadvertent impression of it — but this time is especially wrong. I should've acknowledged the deletion and apologized yesterday. I'm sorry I delayed."

However, Keith Olbermann has been stirring up a controversy online in recent days for his comments about Kirk. Shortly after it was announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be making a comeback after its suspension over comments relating to Charlie Kirk, he took to X to declare:

“We won, you stupid pieces of s–t." "Now we get the fascists off real tv. That’d mean your career is next, Jennings. Send a tape to Real America’s Voice,” he added, referring to the right-wing network. “But keeping mugging to camera, amateur.”

The Independent has reported that the FBI has confirmed that it will not comment on the possibility of a probe into the matter, citing policy. As such, it remains unclear if there is an investigation in existence.

Just last week, when Kimmel's suspension was announced, Keith Olbermann took to X to issue a scathing remark against Kirk and the show's TV affiliates, including Sinclair.

"Burn in hell, Sinclair," Olbermann wrote. "Alongside Charlie Kirk."

He doubled down on his sentiments in another post, when he asserted that what Kimmel said about Kirk was wholly true.

The show will be making a comeback to ABC on Tuesday night.
