Tom Felton recently made his Broadway debut as Draco Malfoy in the "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" production, where he was greeted with thunderous applause. According to Entertainment Weekly, Tom Felton resumed his role in the Tony Award-winning play, performing alongside other actors including John Skelley, who plays the role of Harry Potter.

The news of Tom Felton joining the cast was announced earlier this year, in June, replacing actor Aaron Bartz, who portrayed Draco Malfoy in the previous installments of the play. During his appearance on the Today Show, Felton expressed his excitement about returning to the role and said:

"It's very much a pinch-me kind of situation. I keep thinking I'm dreaming. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I'm getting a chance to step back into his shoes — as a father this time — in a new story. I get to meet Draco as an adult, which is very exciting."

Tom Felton played the iconic character of Draco Malfoy from the very first film, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (2001), until the final installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" (2011). In the play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" which is set almost two decades after the events of the last film, follows the story of a new generation of wizards, as they navigate their own lives at Hogwarts.

According to ABC News, on Tuesday the moment Tom Felton appeared on stage at the Lyric Theatre in New York during a scene with actor John Skelley, fans erupted in screams of excitement. He then proceeded to utter his iconic single-line delivery, "Potter," prompting the audiences to cheer even louder amid the roaring applause. The response was so overwhelming that the beloved actor had to pause for several seconds before continuing with his next line, saying "I need a favor."

While many former Harry Potter actors have distanced themselves from J.K. Rowling following her anti-trans statements, Tom Felton addressed the controversy in a red carpet interview with Variety, at the 2025 Tony Awards earlier this year, in June. He explained that the issue did not influence his decision to reprise his role, adding he was not completely "attuned" to the entire controversy, and said:

"I can't say it does, I'm not really that attuned to it. If anything, I remind myself I've been lucky to travel the world, and I've not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter, and she's responsible for that, so I'm incredibly grateful."

The spin-off production of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," written by playwright Jack Thorne, is a "nineteen-week limited engagement play" set to run from November 11 to March 22 next year. According to USA Today, the play first premiered back in 2016 and has since won multiple awards. In 2021, it was announced that the production, originally split into two parts, was rewritten into a single, unified play for US audiences.
