He announced the challenge on his Instagram account by dropping a teaser. The clip showed him with Baby Rich, his longtime collaborator. He says:“Man, this album is due in three days. I still can’t believe he agreed to this.”He built his fans’ anticipation during his livestream by introducing a subscriber goal where he promised to cut his dreadlocks if he gained 40k new subscribers. He did chop off his hair as the YouTuber-turned-artist surpassed his goal. Before the big finale of cutting off his dreads, DDG carried out several wild challenges on his livestream. At 20,000 subs, he got a new tattoo of his nickname "MOO" inked on his arm, at 25,000 subs he ate a super spicy hot chip while sitting in an ice bath, and at 30,000 subs he died the tips of his dreads pink. He eventually released his album, Blame the Chat, during his Twitch livestream.During an interview with the Rolling Stone, he talked about making music in front of a live audience. He told the outlet that it was a “good” experience, and added:“I do it every day, so every time I go in the studio, that’s just how I make music. And it is cool to do it live, especially in front of a different audience, because I feel like [Plaqueboymax]’s audience is a lot different from mine. They’re a lot younger, and they may follow trends and hate trains around my name, so for me to rap in front of them and show them the raw talent, I feel like that’s where the good reception came from.”DDG was previously in a relationship with Halle Bailey, with whom he shares a son named Halo. They reportedly broke up in October 2024.
