Yoon Il-bong first appeared in a film in 1947. The cultural film Railroad Story or A Story of the Railroad marked his first appearance on the screen. He was a young boy of 13, and it was the beginning of a long-lasting career.

He was born in the year 1934 in Goesan County of North Chungcheong Province. He began acting full-time in 1948 with the commercial movie Green Hill, also known as Blue Hill. This assisted him in making a serious step in the film industry.

Yoon Il-bong also started exploring theater in 1956. He made his stage entrance in Heroic Outlaw Im Kkeok-jeong. He combined his work in films and theater at an early age. These experiences helped him develop as an actor and perform a wide range of roles.
