After spending more than a year evading authorities, a man tied to the deadly shooting of California rapper Chris King was caught. Officials announced that they arrested 22-year-old Adrian Cameron Jr. on May 28 in Los Angeles.

The shooting happened in April 2024 and claimed the life of 32-year-old Christopher Cheeks, better known by his rap name, Chris King. The death of the rapper brought significant public interest. People focused on both the tragic loss of a young rapper and the fact that one suspect, who was out on bond for a previous murder charge, was involved.

In March 2025, police in Nashville arrested a second suspect named Amir Carroll, who is 19 years old, for his connection to the case. Authorities have not yet identified or arrested the third suspect.

When did Chris King die?

Chris King got shot on April 20, 2024. The fatal shooting took place close to a recording studio in Midtown Nashville. Cheeks was hanging out with friends in an alley between Hayes and Church streets around 2:30 in the morning when three people approached to rob them. In the chaos, Cheeks and another man, who was 29, were both hit by gunfire. The rapper tried to run but was found hurt later in a hotel parking garage nearby. Paramedics rushed him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where doctors said he didn’t survive. Officers made progress in the case after locating Cameron Jr. in a Los Angeles home. The arrest happened through a joint effort by the LAPD and an FBI task force.

At the time of the 2024 shooting, Cameron had been wearing an ankle monitor because he was out on bond related to a 2021 murder charge. Reports indicate that the monitor was removed after the Nashville shooting, increasing the urgency of the hunt to capture him. Cameron faces charges connected to the 2021 death of 50-year-old Josh Evans. They discovered Evans's body in the Cumberland River wrapped in trash bags. He had been shot during a drug-related meeting at an apartment in Lebanon, Tennessee. Cameron was 17 years old when the incident occurred.

Officials plan to transfer Cameron from California to Tennessee to make him stand trial on several counts, such as murder and robbery.
