The couple have been linked to one another since 2017, with multiple sources claiming that they had been engaged for “years” despite not feeling the need to rush their wedding.

To complicate matters even further, reports have surfaced online alleging that the Coldplay lead vocalist went on a ‘secret date’ with Sophie Turner sometime towards the beginning of October. This was presumably before Chris Martin’s split with Dakota Johnson, and occurred once Sophie’s relationship with aristocrat Peregrine Pearson had officially flamed out.

Sources close to Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson have shared that, “It feels final this time,” and their relationship has run its course. As of this reporting, neither Chris nor Dakota has been available for comment.

In 2024, when the chatter of a potential split reached a breaking point, Dakota’s representatives were quick to shut down the claims, despite the couple’s documented peaks and valleys.

"Sure, they've had issues and taken breaks in the past, but things are great now. They both love their careers. They are balancing things the best they can."

More recently, Dakota Johnson addressed her views on relationships while promoting her film The Materialists. She shared her thoughts rather openly in a June 4 interview with the Los Angeles Times.

"For a long time we’ve all been so quick to judge relationships or how they should happen, how they should exist in the world. When people should get married. Divorce is bad. All these things that actually, if you think about it, why is divorce bad? Why do people have to get married or at a certain age or only once? Why? It doesn’t matter."

According to RadarOnline, the purported reason for the pair’s split was ultimately Martin’s over-reliance on his partner, with sources alleging that he became too “dependent on her in the end.”

It is unclear if this separation will last, as an insider close to Dakota has shared that the actress may “eventually take him back”, though at this point it's simply conjecture. For now, it seems as though Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson are no longer an item.
