Socialite and media personality Kim Kardashian will be appearing in court to testify in the armed robbery case that happened in October 2016. The heist happened during the Paris Fashion Week nine years ago in her hotel room.

The trial had already begun on April 28, 2025, and Kim is set to take the stand next week, on May 13, 2025. According to Kim Kardashian's lawyers, Jonathan Mattout and Léonor Hennerick:

“She is committed to attending the trial in person and confronting those who attacked her.”

The suspects are being infamously known as the “grandpa robbers” gang. They were arrested almost three months after they robbed Kim Kardashian. In a 2020 interview with David Letterman, Kim spoke about the traumatic experience, sharing how terrified she had felt during the incident.

She believed she was about to be s**ually assaulted and mentally prepared herself for the worst. She explained that the intruder restrained her using handcuffs, zip ties, and duct tape. They had also covered her eyes and mouth.

On October 3, 2016, the robbery suspects entered her hotel room, dressed as police officers. Kim Kardashian’s jewellery, worth $10 million, was stolen along with her $4 million engagement ring, given to her by her ex-husband Kanye West.

The jewellery items were not found by the police, except the necklace that one of the prime suspects, Yunice Abbas, accidentally dropped while escaping. Abbas, who is now a defendant in the case, admitted being involved in the heist but denied kidnapping the socialite.

Kim Kardashian believed the incident happened for a reason

As per reports, Yunice Abbas said the robbery made him realize the harm he had caused. He shared that he hadn’t felt sympathy for victims before but changed his perspective afterward. Other defendants included Gary Madar, accused of helping the gang with information, and Marc Boyer, who was said to have provided the weapons.

Madar denied the claims, while Boyer regretted that his son had been influenced by a criminal environment. Besides Abbas and other gang members, a female defendant, Christiane "Cathy" Glotin, held a controversial stance in the trial.

According to The Mirror US, her family members argued that she shouldn’t be held responsible because harming a woman went against her values. In her testimony, she admitted to helping those involved but denied taking part in the actual robbery. She asked the jury for understanding, saying that prison wasn’t a place for someone of her age.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres in 2017, Kim Kardashian reflected on the robbery and said she believed it happened for a reason, as it deeply changed who she was. She explained that learning the suspects had been watching her for two years made her rethink how openly she had talked about her jewelry.

Although Kim Kardashian wasn’t sure if she’d ever feel safe enough to wear real jewelry again, the experience made her completely change how she travels and views security.

At the time, she didn’t think she needed constant protection, but afterward, she began traveling with multiple security guards to feel safe enough to sleep.
