Tyler Robinson, the man accused of fatally gunning down conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is due in court this week, where he will be formally charged.

Al Jazeera has reported that Robinson, 22, will appear in court remotely from jail on Tuesday afternoon, September 16, as is typical. Utah County prosecutors confirmed on Monday that they are working towards formally charging him with Kirk's slaying.

The right-wing provocateur and founder of Turning Point USA was shot dead on Wednesday, September 10, on the Utah Valley University campus. Following a two-day manhunt, Robinson was arrested and detained after he turned himself in. Al Jazeera has reported that the charges could also be delayed to Friday if they need more time to review the “mountain of evidence”.

The latest developments in Tyler Robinson's case explored as motive remains unclear:

KSL legal analyst Greg Skordas has weighed in to note that Tyler Robinson is likely to be denied bail:

“I would anticipate an aggravated murder count and maybe a couple of lesser counts,” he said. “But the county attorney doesn’t have to make the decision as to whether they’re going to pursue that at this time.” He went on, “He probably won’t be released. I’m certain that with a death penalty potential case that he’ll be held on no bail.”

County Attorney Jeff Gray issued a press release on Saturday that reads as follows:

“Assuming that we can file charges by Tuesday, we will hold a press conference to explain those charges and the next steps in this case. That press conference will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at noon [18:00 GMT]."

The charges from Tyler Robinson's initial booking are expected to stand.

“Our ability to file charges depends on how quickly we can gather and carefully review mountains of evidence. We will be thorough and deliberate at every stage of this case,” Gray added.

NPR has reported that the student now faces charges of

"obstruction of justice and the felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury."

Republican Gov. Spencer Cox of Utah spoke on ABC's This Week, where he said that Tyler Robinson is "not cooperating" with authorities, adding,

"all the people around him are cooperating, and I think that's very important."

He also confirmed that the suspect was/is in a romantic relationship with his roommate, who is currently in the process of transitioning from male to female. The latter is repotedly "incredibly cooperative" with investigators and is clueless about Robinson's initentions, Cox said on CNN's State of the Union.

As of this writing, officials have yet to confirm the motive behind the shooting, Yahoo! News has reported.
