The New Year is right around the corner, and that means it's time for the long-standing tradition of the New Year's Eve ball drop. People Magazine has reported that the annual tradition, which rakes in a staggering 1 million people in N.Y.C., also rakes in about 1 billion people who watch it live across TV. The famous ball drop tradition dates back to 1907, since when it has been descending the flagpole atop One Times Square year after year. The ninth iteration, which is also the newest, titled the Constellation Ball, made its debut in 2025. In the new year, the ball will make its drop as usual, though it will also be relit in red, white, and blue colors as a tribute to the United States' 250th anniversary. Here's everything you need to know about watching the Ball Drop from home this New Year's Eve: ABC, CBS and all other major networks will reportedly be broadcasting the Ball Drop, allowing you to watch the moment from the comfort of your own home from anywhere in the world. These networks will also showcase a glimpse of what it's like to be at Times Square on NYE. If you're looking for other options, you can also check out the official Times Square website, which will stream the event starting at 6pm ET on December 31. The website is free and simply requires a stable internet connection. However, CNN's renowned yearly broadcast will also make its comeback this year at 8pm ET, and Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen will reconvene to host the ninth year. Viewers can look forward to live reports from around the globe, a host of celebrities and musical performances, and more. Those interested can opt for the outlet's new subscription platform, which is available on CNN.com/AllAccess, as well as CNN’s mobile and smart TV apps. Watching it on television is also an option, and the programme kicks off at 7am ET. As for Dick Clark's program on ABC, which happens to be the longest-running celebration, it kicks off at 8pm ET, and will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest from Times Square. Rita Ora will serve as co-host, while Diana Ross will be headlining this year. Ciara, Little Big Town, Maren Morris and many more will also show up for performances. CBS will be hosting "Nashville’s Big Bash," which also kicks off at 8pm ET. It will be hosted by Bert Kreischer and HARDY, and focuses on Nashville’s music industry. It is important to note that the broadcast will take a brief pause at 10pm ET, though it will kickstart again at 10:30pm through midnight, until the New Year rings in. You can watch it live on CBS, though Paramount+ users also have the option of tuning in. The Jonas Brothers are also stringing together a two-hour countdown New Year's Eve celebration, which will see them perform some of their biggest hits, as well as tracks off their latest album, Greetings From Your Hometown.
