In October last year, Adam Ray collaborated with Netflix to give his Dr. Phil sketches a new platform. Complete with prosthetics and an artifical mustache, he interviewed his inspiration, Dr. Phil himself. In the “Adam Ray’s Dr. Phil Comedy Special” show, he also spoke with guests like Patton Oswalt, Jay Pharoah and “Gollum,” among others.
Earlier this year, the comedian also made headlines when he invited a man with cerebral palsy to come up on stage with him during one of his gigs for a comedic act. Adam Ray had been talking about his friend in a wheelchair at the time when someone in the audience heckled him.
He noticed the person in question sitting in a wheelchair and promptly asked the man about his condition, to which he quipped,
"I am like Ahren Belisle, but not as bad."
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Ray also asked him if he was a fellow comedian, he replied, "I try." The comedian then invited him to come up on stage, only to express shock when the man got up and walked towards him.
Adam Ray then asked him, "Where are you from?" and instead of answering, the man told the audience:
"He's not telling you that this is a Make a Wish."
The audience erupted into a wave of cheers as Adam Ray said,
"Watching you get out of the chair was maybe one of the grandest things I have ever seen. I had committed to the idea that you were stuck in that chair." He joked, "Don't learn how to walk properly because that is one of your hooks."
The man, whose name is reportedly Avery, shot back:
"Obviously, this has its perks. This is like my Disneyland. I came right to the front while all of you have to sit there."
When Ray asked him how long he could stand before something would happen, his response had the room laughing:
"You are going to find out that I never stood before."
