“Was it Krispy? Right right” meme creator Annie Korzen is accusing Krispy Kreme and Maxibon of using her famous video without her approval.

As reported by People Magazine, Korzen, 86, took to Instagram recently to allege that the companies used her famed line in the 2021 video, where she can be seen discussing Krispy Kreme doughnuts. At the time, she delivered her famous line, which quickly went viral.

On June 30, Maxibon shared a video on its official TikTok account announcing the return of a collaboration with Krispy Kreme, and its caption was reminiscent of what Korzen said in the popular 2021 clip:

“wAs iT kRIspY????”

Annie Korzen says she just wants credit and fairness, questions if she's being "used" as an "older woman": Read more

In her recent video, Annie Korzen laments:

"Something rather disturbing just happened and I wanna share it with you. As most of you know, during the pandemic, I created a video that went viral, and it isued the terms 'was it crispy?' and 'right, right.' And I've been very astounded and amazed and surprised and pleased about the responses gotten. To this day, they keep telling me they say those terms everyday, they use those terms, it gives them a lot of pleasure, and if I've given a lot of pleasure to people, even if it wasn't on purpose, I think that's great."

She continued,

"But what happened recently is that there is a collaboration between Maxibon and Krispy Kreme, and they have put up a video using me, using my image, using my words to sell their product. I am not credited. I am not paid for it. I think this happens all the time, but do you think maybe big corporations take advantage of people like me because I'm a woman? Because I'm an older woman?" she speculated. "Because they consider we have no clout?"

She also said that she tried contacting them, only to get no response. In her video, she asserted that she was not asking the internet to "bully" or "harass" the companies.

"What I'm interested in, is fairness," she said. "And credit, and compensation, and respect. Don't you think that's fair? Let me know." She penned in the caption, “I’m open to working with brands, but using my original content without credit or pay is unacceptable."

As of this writing, neither of the brands has discussed the claims and has yet to put out a statement. It remains to be seen if Annie Korzen will look into her legal options.
