Former New York Lt Governor Betsy McCaughey has jumped to President Trump's defense amid intensifying scrutiny over his handling of the Epstein files.

During CNN’s 'NewsNight', McCaughey defended the president amid his recent order for a federal probe into the complete release of the convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein's files.

For the unversed, Betsy McCaughey is a patient advocate, health policy expert, and the former Lieutenant Governor of New York State. She is the founder of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths (also known as RID) and its current chairman.

She has also authored several hundred articles related to health policy, infection, and Medicare. Her website further states that she boasts a National Magazine Award for her 1994 analysis of the dangers of the Clinton health plan in The New Republic.

In a clip circulating online, anchor Abby Phillip says,

“The following frames and their corresponding subtitles have been sampled from the video.” A CNN legal commentator then adds, “The files, we cannot release this to the public or anybody else. And Donald Trump just got his trump card from doing this. Brilliant and scary.”

McCaughey then chimed in:

“I'm for transparency. I think all the files should be released. But let me be clear." She continued, “I know from personal experience that Donald Trump has never had a taste for inappropriately young girls in the 1990s, when I was lieutenant governor, Donald Trump and I double dated.” She explained, “I was dating my future husband, Wilbur Ross. He was dating his future wife, Marla Maples.”

She also recalled,

“We called her peaches. We would go to the fights in Atlantic City. We would go out to nightclubs. Plenty of hot spots.” She concluded, “And I never saw Donald Trump behave inappropriately with anyone young. So I think that all of those records should be just released. Everybody wants."

Just this Friday, November 14, President Trump took to his Truth Social platform to call on Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to collaborate with the FBI on uncovering what he called the “Epstein Hoax.”

"Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax, involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous SHUTDOWN, and all of their other failures," he penned. "I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase." He said the goal is to "to determine what was going on with them, and him."

He concluded his post by dubbing the situation “another Russia, Russia, Russia scam," adding that the evidence suggested the Democrats' involvement.

"Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his “Island.” Stay tuned!!!"

Pam Bondi responded to his sentiments shortly after with a statement of her own on X, which read as follows:

"Thank you, Mr. President. SDNY U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton is one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country, and I’ve asked him to take the lead. As with all matters, the Department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people."

Trump, who was famously friends with Epstein for decades, did not specify what crimes he wanted the Justice Department to look into. Furthermore, none of the men he name-dropped in his post have been accused of sexual misconduct by any of Epstein's victims. Said names include former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and LinkedIn founder and Democratic donor Reid Hoffman.

In July, the FBI released a memo about the Epstein investigation, noting,

"We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties."
