Carol Altieri, a veteran CBS executive who previously directed the network's standards and practices department, died at the age of 76. Following a protracted illness, Carol passed away at her residence in Palm Desert, California, on August 9.

The esteemed CBS executive became part of the company in 1969.

Hailing from Queens, New York, and raised on Long Island, Carol Altieri commenced her tenure at CBS during the pinnacle of its “Tiffany Network” period in 1969. Initially, she served as an executive assistant in the network's C-suite.

Carol rose to the position of editor in 1974. Three years later, she got promoted to senior editor in CBS' program practices department, which guaranteed that network programming strictly adheres to broadcast standards.

She relocated to Los Angeles in 1982 as the Director of Program Practices and moved up to Vice President of Program Practices two years thereafter. She directed the department for over 20 years, attaining the position of senior vice president in 2003, and retired in 2005.

Carol Altieri authored CBS' program standards guide, which is in effect today, and contributed to the establishment of the network's regulations that balance creative liberty with broadcasting standards.

She provided testimony before Congress multiple times and collaborated with special interest groups as well as industry task forces to safeguard the television industry's First Amendment rights against governmental encroachment. She additionally authored works and delivered lectures at UCLA’s Anderson School of Business. Contributions in Altieri’s honor may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Project.

Carol loved being a confidante, mentor, and friend to her nieces and nephews, including Jesse Falsone, Ann-Loren Falsone Roy, Jennifer Boone Hayes, and the late Colin Boone, even though she never married. In spite of her hectic work schedule, she never missed a chance to talk to them, cheerfully returning their calls.
