Chloe Malle is reported to be the next head of editorial content at American Vogue. According to Lauren Sherman of Puck News, her new role could be announced as early as Tuesday. At present, she is the editor of Vogue.com.

Anna Wintour, who has led American Vogue since 1988, announced in June that she would step down from her editorial content role. However, she will stay on as Vogue’s global editorial director and Condé Nast’s chief content officer.

Condé Nast has not confirmed Malle’s appointment yet. A spokesperson told Page Six, “no announcement was made today.”

Chloe Malle is the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and French filmmaker Louis Malle. She was born in 1985 and grew up in New York City. Malle attended Brown University, where she studied literature.

After graduation, she started working in publishing. She began her career as a social editor at Vogue. Later, she moved into digital media and became Vogue.com’s editor. She has worked on digital storytelling, special projects, and online content strategy.

Outside of Vogue, Malle has also written freelance pieces. She has contributed to outlets like The New York Times and Town & Country. Her writing has focused on culture, style, and social events.

Anna Wintour announced her decision to step down from her American Vogue editorial content role in June 2025.

She told staff at the time,

“Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one’s work.”

Vogue clarified that the new head of editorial content would lead the magazine’s daily operations across platforms. That person would also report directly to Wintour. This means Wintour will still oversee global content and strategy.

She also spoke about her long career and her goals for the future of the magazine.

“My greatest pleasure has been helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas,” Wintour said.

The choice of Chloe Malle could reflect this effort to pass on leadership.

Chloe Malle’s reported appointment marks a major step for American Vogue. Her background in digital media and her history with the magazine make her a strong candidate for the role. If confirmed, she will take on responsibility for guiding Vogue’s U.S. editorial direction while reporting to Anna Wintour.

The official announcement has not yet been made, but Malle’s name signals continuity at the magazine. It also points to Vogue’s focus on combining tradition with new digital growth.
