Irish YouTuber and TikToker Dara Tah faces backlash online after trespassing on a cannibal tribe. In the tense footage, Tah and a group of tourists nervously edge their wooden boat towards tribesmen standing on the banks of Papua’s dense jungle in Indonesia and try to offer them salt from a packet.

As the crew approaches the "untouched" cannibal tribe, one of the tribesmen points his bow and arrow at the vessel. Papua is home to around 300 tribes, while the neighboring Papua New Guinea boasts approximately twice that many. Contact with these tribes is not only dangerous, but also risks exposing them to deadly diseases they have no immunity to, similar to cases seen during the Spanish and European invasion of the Aztecs and Incas.

In the now viral TikTok video, which boasts 18 million views, Dara Tah is heard talking about the interaction.

“I think they’re pointing bows and arrows at us, bro,” one of Tah’s crew says.
“Seriously, this is terrifying,” Tah mutters, “seriously, they are huge bows.”

After one of the tribesmen tasted the salt, he spat it out angrily.

“Oh God, he doesn’t look like he likes that,” Tah said nervously, “alright guys, let’s move back maybe," he added.
“We have to move,” the guide stated. “We’re not welcome. It’s really dangerous.”
As the video ended, his tour guide, Demi, added, "I'm sorry I take you here,"

However, the influencer didn't back down and promised to come back in an attempt to befriend the tribe again.

He captioned the video, "Deep in the jungle of Papua... Just tried to make contact with a cannibal tribe LOL Will try again tomorrow. Wish us luck."

He faces quite a bit of backlash on the video in the comment section, with people accusing Demi of exploiting the locals for TikTok clicks and of the video being “staged.”
