Hollywood-adjacent Mexican star Gabriela Michel, beloved voice of Samantha Jones of Sex and the City and mother of Eugenio Derbez’s eldest daughter, Aislinn, has reportedly died in Mexico City at the age of 65.

On Tuesday, Nov. 25, the Mexican Association of Interpreters confirmed the news through a heartfelt Instagram post in Spanish. Per the translation:

"A Mexican actress with a long and distinguished career in television and dubbing, her voice allowed characters like Samantha Jones from the popular American series 'Sex and the City' to be heard in Spanish."

The association didn't specify the cause of death of the beloved voice icon, although it offered condolences to Gabriela Michel's loved ones.

"We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends on behalf of the Board of Directors and Oversight Committee of ANDI."

As of writing, neither Aislinn nor other relatives have released an official statement regarding the passing of Gabriela Michel. Multiple Mexican outlets have reported that a presumed accident inside her home caused her death, although there is no formal or police statement to verify the information.

News of Gabriela Michel's death began circulating on Monday, Nov. 24, when influencer Jacqueline Martínez, known as "Chamonic," stated that she passed away around 7:00 a.m. She added that the cause of her passing was an accident at her residence in Mexico City. On Instagram, she wrote:

"Aislinn Derbez, daughter of Eugenio Derbez, is in mourning. Sadly, her mother, Gabriela Michel, passed away today at approximately 7:00 a.m. at the age of 65 in Mexico City. I am told it was due to an accident at her home. It should be noted that they have not yet commented on the cause of death nor made it public."

Gabriela Michel: A glimpse into the beloved actress's life and career

Gabriela Castrejón Michel was born on October 24, 1960, in Mexico City. She was a Mexican voice actress and radio announcer, and is the mother of actress Aislinn Derbez.

She married Eugenio Derbez, the father of Aislinn, in 1986 after dating for seven years. However, they parted ways after only a year of marriage, but continued to interact to co-parent their child.

In 2016, she married fellow voice actor and TV presenter Jorge Alberto Aguilera, who remained her husband until her death in November 2025.

Gabriela Michel is known for her voice work on Bedtime Stories, The Parent Trap, and The Santa Clause 2. She also contributed to the animated films, such as Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams, and A Christmas Carol - The Spirit of Christmas Present.

Other than the family-oriented movies, Michel also lent her voice to Grey's Anatomy, Hannah Montana, Desperate Housewives, and, most notably, to Sex and the City's character Samantha Jones.
