The fundraiser for Gloria Zamora, the fitness influencer who was shot dead by her estranged husband at the age of 40, has raised over $30,000.
Fox News has reported that Zamora and her business partner, Hector Garduno, 43, were slain outside a Southern California restaurant. At the time, they were dining at Summa Sushi to discuss a forthcoming business venture in Fontana, San Bernardino County.
When they reached the parking lot, however, they were confronted by Gloria Zamora's estranged husband, Thomas Alberto Tamayo Lizarraga, 45, who shot them.
He was later shot and killed by an off-duty sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene after hearing gunfire. Zamora and her partner succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Gloria Zamora was the mother of seven, while Garduno had four children. She had over 157K followers on Instagram and 85,000 followers on TikTok. She was known for sharing fitness videos and offering advice for fellow moms.
A week before her death, Gloria Zamora revealed on her podcast, HERizon, that she was leaving her husband, explaining why their marriage had broken down.
Gloria Zamora and Hector Garduno's life and legacy explored as their families mourn their demise:
Fontana Police Department Officer Steve Reed told ABC 7 Los Angeles of the shooting:
“There was a male and a female that were estranged; they were going through a divorce, that led to this. We don’t know how he knew where she was at, but apparently, she had been at the restaurant for approximately an hour prior to the shooting. Apparently, he was driving on the street outside the shopping center and heard the gunshots and saw what had happened, made a U-turn at the light, and got out of his vehicle, and confronted the suspect," Reed said.
Gloria Zamora's daughter, Jazlynne Zamora, has since launched a GoFundMe to help her siblings incur the costs of the funeral expenses:
“My mom was senselessly taken from us, she was murdered by my stepdad Tomas, in an act of unimaginable violence,” she wrote on the page. “She leaves behind 7 beautiful children, ages 8 to 24, who are now facing a future without our mother’s warmth, guidance and unconditional love.”
She added of Gloria Zamora,
“My mom was more than just a mother — she was a light in her community. She uplifted and inspired countless women, reminding them of their worth, their strength and their potential.”
Jazlynne told Fox News:
"I miss my mom so much. Nobody saw her Saturday. She was gone for a business meeting. She did a photo shoot and met her business partner because they were going to open up a gym for women. I’m just waiting for her to walk in through the door and come in laughing. It’s just so hard."
A GoFundMe page was also set up for Garduno's family by one of his daughter's, Yesenia Garduno.
"It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected loss of our beloved father. He was a loving, devoted, and hardworking man that was tragically murdered and gone too soon. He lived life with strength and did everything he could for his four daughters and family. His passing has left a hole in our hearts and a void in our lives that can never be filled," she penned.
All funds raised will go toward a proper funeral for her father and help ease the immediate financial burden on their family. About $9,000 has been raised as of this writing.
