Heston James, a social media influencer known for his prank videos, was arrested two weeks ago and was later reported to be facing a potential nine-year sentence.
Now, in an interesting turn of events, another major social media creator, Adin Ross, has shown his support for Heston James, vowing to help him by providing legal assistance. James has a huge presence on social media, with 1.3 million followers on his Instagram and over 84K subscribers on his YouTube channel.
According to the New York Post, Heston James, whose real name is Heston Cobb, was arrested at his home in Arizona two weeks ago, on Wednesday, July 24, by the Temple Police. According to the police, James and a group of his friends reportedly visited several stores in the area, posing as employees and causing disruption in their services.
In a statement, the authorities alleged that the reason for his arrest was that the videos posted on his social media platforms crossed the line from "playful into criminal territory." They said:
"These men began seriously disrupting their businesses by entering employee-only areas and refusing to leave when asked. The videos garnered millions of views and potentially generated large amounts of money. These videos are definitely not pranks. They are crossing the line from something that’s fun and playful into criminal territory. They’re breaking laws."
More about Heston James' arrest, as Adin Ross pledges to help him
Heston James, who filmed these prank videos between March and July, has been charged with a total of thirteen charges. According to the report released by the Temple Police, the TikTok prankster faces one count of burglary in the third degree, two counts of criminal impersonation, five counts of criminal trespassing, and five counts of disorderly conduct.
According to Dexerto, on August 2, Adin Ross mentioned James during his livestream, revealing that it was Cobbs' lawyer who had reached out to him, after which he decided to get involved. He said:
"Here’s my thing, there are people who deserve to go to jail for a long time and they get less than him. You know what I’m trying to say?”
Ross added:
“Like, 9 years for f*cking pranks?"
The streamer further said that he had asked his own lawyer to look into the matter, adding that he would also be covering the six-figure legal fees for the case. He said:
"I’m gonna help him, f*ck it. Let’s help him out. Tell Heston I got him. My lawyer wants to take on this case. We’re gonna get him out of there. I ain’t gonna lie, though. These fees are about to be six figures, but he’s a kid. I’ll do it."
Heston James is not only facing a prison term of nine years, but if convicted, he could also face a potential fine of $315,000.
