Bryan Gumbel's wife of 23 years, Hilary Gumbel, is an advocate for UNICEF USA. According to her UNICEF profile, Gumbel is also an Emmy-winning producer and a philanthropist who has collaborated with HBO, NBC, MSNBC, and Discovery.

The former Today host was reportedly rushed to the hospital on September 20 after suffering a "medical emergency" in his Manhattan apartment. Sources told TMZ that Gumbel was hauled out of his apartment on a gurney and remained hospitalized on September 21.

News on his medical condition or what he is being treated for is unclear. However, a family member told TMZ that Gumbel is "okay."

Hilary Gumbel is an advocate for UNICEF USA and has over 15 years of experience in fundraising and advocacy for UNICEF USA, and has travelled for the organization's in-country programs in Angola, Guatemala, Haiti, Peru, Senegal, Vietnam, and Uruguay. Hilary has been serving on UNICEF's national Board of Directors since 2012, and has been a senior advisor in helping UNICEF USA's brand marketing strategy and celebrity ambassador program.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Hilary received the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award from the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund in December 2014. Hilary is also a published author and created UniChef Top Chefs Unite in 2013, as part of her work with UNICEF USA.

Building on the success of her book, she created and executive-produced a TV special titled UniChef, Uniting Through Food, and also worked on other projects for Peacock and WarnerMedia.

Hilary and Bryant have been married for 23 years. They tied the knot in August 2002 at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. While talking to People at the time about the wedding, Breakers' head of Marketing, Dave Burke, said,

"It was very nice; the room was spectacular. He was happy, she was happy. It was uneventful, just what Bryant wanted. The room was beautiful, Hilary was beautiful. It was terrific."

Bryant and Hilary collaborated on a project during the coronavirus pandemic. Hilary Gumbel worked with her husband on season 27 of HBO's Real Sports, which he hosted from 1995 to 2023. Gumbal won an Emmy for Outstanding Sports News/Feature Anthology for her work on Real Sports.

As per her LinkedIn profile, Hilary "managed remote camera operations, sound, and lighting" and produced "high-quality media content" for the show.

Before moving to New York in 1999 and starting her career with UNICEF, Hilary Gumbel worked for several brokerage firms. She also worked with Goldman Sachs for six years.
