American Christian singer Sean Feucht's concert in downtown Charlottetown on July 24 is reportedly not being supported by the city. The evangelical musician first rose to prominence with his Let Us Worship tour, which reportedly protested the COVID-19 lockdown rules that prohibited gatherings in public places, including churches, according to Premier Christian News.
According to multiple news outlets, including Global News, Feucht has spoken against "abortion rights and LGBTQ+ community". Per CBC News, a statement was released by Charlottetown noting that they are aware that Feucht's concert was set to be held at the "Confederation Landing."
The city has reportedly clarified that it is not a "city-sponsored event". They reportedly are in full support of the "2SLGBTQ+ community." The statement further emphasized,
"If there are any opinions or statements expressed by any performer to the contrary, they are not the views of the City."
Sean Feucht responds to backlash over his upcoming Parks Canada concert
MAGA supporter Sean Feucht's controversial opinions have reportedly garnered significant negative attention from the Halifax neighbourhood, per Global News. Feucht is reportedly set to commence the Canadian leg of his tour from York Redoubt on July 23. According to CBC News, York Redoubt is a Parks Canada-owned "historic site", with reports of residents being concerned about the views shared by Sean Feucht.
According to an interview with a resident of the Halifax neighbourhood, the city's guiding principles are of "inclusivity and respect", which reportedly go against what Sean Feucht espouses.
Following the backlash, Feucht took to his Instagram and posted a screenshot of a story by CBC News. Sean also took to his X channel and wrote,
"We will all get to witness if free speech and freedom of religion still exist in Canada."
He added a caption on his Instagram post noting,
"HOW TOLERANT IS CANADA OF CHRISTIANS? I guess we'll find out."
While citizens of the Halifax neighbourhood have vehemently opposed Feucht's performance, many are also in support of his beliefs and performance. While there is opposition, it is unclear if any official decision has been made against Feucht's tour in Canada.
