Wesley LePatner, Senior Managing Director of the investment management company Blackstone, has reportedly lost her life due to a fatal shooting on Monday. According to The New York Post, a person identified as Shane Tamura shot and killed four individuals, including Wesley LePatner, in a shooting rampage on Monday evening at 345 Park Avenue before shooting himself.
Blackstone confirmed the news of Wesley’s passing in an official statement issued on Tuesday morning. The company mourned the loss of their colleague—a mother and a wife—and said they were “heartbroken.” The statement read:
"Words cannot express the devastation we feel. Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be sorely missed. She was brilliant, passionate, warm, generous, and deeply respected within our firm and beyond. She embodied the best of Blackstone."
They added:
”Our prayers are with her husband, children and family. We are also saddened by the loss of the other innocent victims as well, including brave security personnel and NYPD."
Wesley LePatner killed in Park Avenue, New York shooting
CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT), Wesley LePatner was one of the victims of the shooting rampage at the company’s headquarters. A mother, wife, and women’s advocate, LePatner joined Blackstone in 2014 and has since been an integral part of the unit.
According to The Washington Post, the police are currently investigating the motives behind the rampage. News outlets reported that the shooter carried a note which may offer indications about the motive. NYPD held a public briefing about the incident, with Commissioner Jessica Tisch addressing the press. She noted:
"Tamura has a documented mental health history. His motives are still under investigation and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location. 345 Park Avenue is a commercial office building whose tenants include the NFL, Rudin Management, KPMG and Blackstone."
Tributes and messages have poured in for the victims of the Park Avenue shooting. Police confirmed that one of the victims is in critical condition and has been hospitalized.
