Jesy Nelson is an English singer who was formerly a part of Little Mix. As per Billboard, Little Mix became the first-ever girl group to win the U.K. edition of X Factor in 2011 and have sold more than 50 million records worldwide. She recently shared some troubling news about her twin daughters after receiving a shocking medical diagnosis about their health.

The 34-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday, January 4th, to share that her children had been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA1). Her emotions in the video reflected the weight of the diagnosis on her family.

"After the most gruelling three, four months, and endless appointments, the girls have now been diagnosed with a severe muscular disease called SMA type 1. Essentially, what it does is, over time, it kills the muscles to the body, and if it's not treated in time, your baby's life expectancy will not make it past the age of two."

Nelson added,

“We were told that they’re probably never going to be able to walk; they probably will never regain their neck strength, so they will be disabled, and so the best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment, and then just hope for the best. Thankfully, the girls have had their treatment, which you know, I’m so grateful for because if they don’t have it, they will die.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jesy Nelson’s twin girls, although it is clear that they seem to be getting the support they need to attempt to overcome their diagnosis.

Jesy Nelson - Twins' diagnosis, more

Jesy Nelson made it clear that her post was to share her experience with her audience, while also raising awareness for children afflicted with spinal muscular atrophy.

"The reason I wanted to make this video was because the last three months have honestly been the most heartbreaking time of my life. I literally feel like my whole life has done a 360."

While the news has been devastating for her family, she “seemed steadfast in her belief that her twins are equipped to “defy all the odds”.

As per the BBC, Nelson gave birth to her twins prematurely at only 31 weeks into her pregnancy. Additionally, she had previously revealed her experience with multiple complications before giving birth. These factors likely played some sort of role in her twins’ developmental issues.

Jesy Nelson shares her twin girls, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, with husband Zion Foster.
