On July 1, 2025, the tragic news of prominent televangelist Jimmy Swaggart's death broke. He was not just popular, but also the longest-serving American television evangelist. He also founded Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, a multimillion-dollar organization.

The Pentecostal leader was in serious condition at a Louisiana hospital since suffering cardiac arrest on June 15, according to family members who spoke at a prayer session last month. Swaggart's death was reported via his public Facebook page.

"Today, our hearts are heavy as we share that Brother Swaggart has finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ. Today was the day he has sung about for decades. He met his beloved Savior and entered the portals of glory. At the same time, we rejoice knowing that we will see him again one day,” the post read.

As of this writing, Jimmy’s cause of death is not yet known.

More about Jimmy Swaggart

Jimmy, the author of over 100 books and commentaries, conducted evangelistic efforts in more than 40 nations, drawing several thousand devotees to stadiums, according to USA Today.

Jimmy Swaggart, born on March 15, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana, was raised in poverty as the son of a preacher within a musically inclined family. He distinguished himself in piano and gospel music, performing and singing alongside skilled cousins who pursued divergent paths.

He persisted in his preaching for decades, albeit with a diminished audience. Notwithstanding another scandal in 1991 and a declining audience, Swaggart persisted in preaching from his Baton Rouge church, frequently accompanied by his son Donnie, and sustained a worldwide presence online and on the radio.

Renowned for his contentious preaching and musical lineage associated with cousins Jerry Lee Lewis and Mickey Gilley, Jimmy's famed life was allegedly marred by sexual scandals after he was seen with a prostitute on two occasions in the late 1990s.
