Who is John Malone’s wife? All about Leslie as the media mogul steps down from Liberty Group board

Liberty Media mogul John Malone has decided to step away from the position of chairman. The media guru who earned the nickname "Cable Cowboy" will be taking the role of chairman emeritus at both Liberty Media and Liberty Global in January.

Liberty Media's current vice chairman, Robert R. Bennett, will be taking over the role of chairman of the board, while the European and U.K. telecom operator, Liberty Global, will have Mike Fries, who is currently CEO and vice chairman, as the new chairman.

In a press release, Malone said, “Founding Liberty Media and serving as its chairman has been among the most rewarding experiences of my professional life. With the successful simplification of our portfolio in recent years and our operating businesses in positions of strength, I believe it is an appropriate time to step back from certain of my obligations, and I am very pleased to have Dob Bennett, my partner and colleague of 35 years, stepping into the chairman role." He further stated, "Dob has been involved in all key decisions throughout Liberty Media’s history, and I am confident that Liberty is well-positioned for the future. I look forward to remaining actively engaged as a large Liberty shareholder and a strategic advisor to our management and Board.”

Robert Bennett expressed his gratitude,

“I want to thank John for more than three decades of partnership and mentorship. His legacy as a visionary business leader is without parallel and I am deeply grateful for his confidence. I speak for the entire board in thanking John for his extraordinary leadership as our chairman and for his continuing engagement as chairman emeritus.”

Who is John Malone's wife?

John Malone married his wife, Leslie Malone, in 1963. The pair are together known for their philanthropic ways, from starting foundations to giving away grants. Leslie loves all things horse-related, as she actively participates in the sport of dressage and horse breeding. Her love for the animals led her to start Harmony Sporthorses in Kiowa, Colorado.

Malones are known for giving back to the community, as in 2021, they donated $25 million to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, for their improvement project. It is the same hospital where Mrs. Malone recently received cardiac care. The couple also granted $42.5 million to Colorado State University to aid in the development of regenerative medical therapies for animals and people.

John Malone and Leslie live in Elizabeth, Colorado, and have two children, Tracy and Evan.
