Irish fashion designer Jonathan Anderson has stepped into the role of Dior’s creative director. As per reports, his appointment is a historic moment as he will be looking after women’s, men’s, and haute couture departments of the company.

The last time someone took such a responsibility was Christian Dior. Sharing the news of his appointment on Instagram, Anderson wrote:

“It is a great honor to join the House of Dior as Creative Director of both women’s and men’s collections. I have always been inspired by the rich history of this House, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary Ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story.”

He went on:

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Bernard Arnault and Delphine Arnault for their trust and loyalty over the years.”

Jonathan Anderson’s appointment at the multinational company comes months after he exited fashion company Loewe. He worked there for 11 years.

Anderson is an alumnus of the London College of Fashion, where he learnt menswear design. He briefly worked as a visual merchandiser at Prada before actively working as a menswear designer.

He also collaborated with Topshop in 2012, which turned out to be a massive success. Anderson is also a recipient of the Menswear Designer of the Year and The New Establishment Award.

Following his appointment, Bernard Arnault, LVMH CEO, also praised Anderson, calling him one of the most talented designers of his time and saying his unique style would play an important role in shaping Dior’s future.

Delphine Arnault expressed her happiness over Jonathan Anderson’s appointment. She mentioned that she had been following his work since he joined the LVMH group more than a decade ago and believed he would bring a fresh and creative perspective to the brand, while honoring the company’s legacy.

She also noted that he would be backed by the team and skilled artisans to bring his ideas to life. Dior also shared the news of Anderson’s appointment on Instagram, writing:

“Dior is thrilled to welcome Jonathan Anderson as Creative Director of women’s, men’s, and haute couture collections of the House. Jonathan Anderson will present his first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, in Paris on June 27, 2025.”

For the unversed, Jonathan Anderson was also behind designing Rihanna’s performance outfit in the 2023 Super Bowl. According to the BBC, Harry Styles also wore clothing designed by him. Speaking about the new creative director with Vogue Business, Delphine Arnault said:

“He can rely on our great team — we have amazing studios with amazing creatives, the best in the world of haute couture, ready-to-wear, across men’s and women’s. And he’s also bringing a team of people he trusts that have been working with him for a while.”

Arnault recalled first meeting Jonathan Anderson in a Paris showroom. At the time, the designer was in his early twenties and had rented a small apartment near Gare du Nord.

Arnault said he found Anderson to be talkative, visionary, and surprisingly mature for his age, which led to their decision to invest in his brand and later bring him on board at Loewe.
