Justin Guzman, an influencer who shot Marine veteran Anthony Sanders on June 3, has had his bail lowered by Judge Hilary Unger. Anthony Sanders was 30 years old. The shooting happened around 5 p.m. in a parking garage near the Galleria Mall on Westheimer Road.
According to the authorities, Anthony Sanders approached Guzman, who was with two other men, after one of them allegedly harassed his fiancée in a mall elevator. As per Guzman, who thought Sanders had a weapon, he shot him in self-defense from the front seat of a Chrysler 300. During the search, police never found any dangerous items on Sanders.
As per the New York Post, the 22-year-old uploaded about the incident on his TikTok, after which he surrendered to Houston police.
Guzman is a social media influencer who is known to make videos on TikTok, particularly lip-syncing and dancing. After he lost his main account, he made another account on the platform with the handle @guzmanhimself1, which has over 53,000 followers as of July 22, 2025.
Justin Guzman has to pay $300,000 to get bail
At a court hearing on Tuesday, Justin Guzman’s lawyer asked for $50,000 bail, citing his cooperation and personal-defense claim. According to his bail agent, Shannon Peña, Guzmán didn’t have the money or assets needed to pay for bail.
However, Judge Hilary Unger set it at $300,000, which he must pay to be released from jail. Unger has previously also lowered his bail to $450,000, which was set at $750,000.
Referencing his financial documents, the judge additionally said in a statement:
"I don’t know anything about him"
Frank Sanders supports the court's decision
Frank Sanders, father of Andrew Sanders, said in a statement:
"I have nothing negative to say — the defense has a right to do that. The evidence will show that it wasn't self-defense as they dig deeper."
Frank Sanders previously also showed the TikTok video of Justin Guzman dancing to the news of the shooting, originally uploaded on TikTok, to the court. In a statement, he added:
"We’re here for justice. Justice for Anthony and also to stand for what he stood for as a person. This was uncalled for."
While Guzman has to pay $300,000 to get out of jail, another man, Marko Cinan, who was arrested with Justin Guzman, still has to pay $1 million to be released from jail.
