Everything we know about Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock's children:
People Magazine has reported that Kelly Clarkson met her former husband at Super Bowl XLVI in February 2012, and by the following year, they eloped. They were married for seven years before the songstress filed for divorce in 2020. At the time, she cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, which was only finalized in March 2022.
Four weeks after they tied the knot, Kelly Clarkson announced that she was expecting her first daughter. At the time, they took to Twitter to make the announcement:
“I’m pregnant!!! Brandon and I are so excited! Best early Christmas present ever,” Clarkson tweeted.
The songstress, who was also the stepmom of Seth and Savannah, Blackstock's children from a previous relationship, announced the birth of her daughter in another tweet:
"Our baby girl River Rose Blackstock arrived on June 12th!Thank you everyone for all of your well wishes! Brandon and I are on cloud 9!!"
Over the years, Clarkson has been vocal about her daughter's bold personality, though in April 2023, she opened up about the bullying River was facing for being dyslexic. Noting that she was being troubled "for not being able to read like all the other kids," guest Henry Winkler, who is also dyslexic, said,
"She's part of the tribe!" He then had a message directly for Kelly Clarkson's daughter: "River! How you learn has nothing to do with how brilliant you are."
As for her son, she welcomed Remy on April 12, 2016. People Magazine has reported that in his early years, Remy suffered from hearing issues and speech impediments:
"He had a speech problem because he had this ear problem when he was a baby. We didn't know," Clarkson told PEOPLE in May 2020. "But way deep down in his ears, he got clogged up with a ton of wax where we thought, almost, he was deaf because he spoke as if he was underwater."
The hearing issues pushed him back "almost nine months" when it came to his communication.
"The big milestone for us is Remy getting to really find out his own personality and his identity, because it's been frustrating for him to not be able to really vocalize his emotion," Clarkson said. "The fact that he's making full sentences now and full-on engaging with us is really a blessing."
As of this writing, the singer has yet to issue a statement on her former husband's passing.
