Kevin Ninh, a social media celebrity and a YouTuber, came out as a transgender woman in a viral video in June 2025, according to an exclusive People report. The 29-year-old video producer, who is known to millions as FlawlessKevin, is seen correcting her grandmother over her use of the pronoun "he," while coming out as transgender in the video that has amassed 12 million views at the time of writing.

Kevin Ninh made her YouTube debut more than 10 years ago, under the username xHeyItsKevinx. She went on to create her main channel, FlawlessKevin, where she talks about and comments on fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and LGBTQ+ issues. She quickly became well-known as a voice for gay youth who are navigating self-expression and social norms.

Ninh, who has around five million followers across various media, has been transparent with her admirers about changing gender identification. From identifying as non-binary to ultimately accepting her femininity, she made use of her prominence to inspire and educate. Her internal development and shift are chronicled in her online series, Diaries of a Doll.

She revealed in a People interview:

“I wasn't able to come out to my mom as she passed from ovarian cancer in 2018, so having my grandma have such a positive experience fulfilled that motherly support for me."

She continued:

“I also think it's cool how a woman in her 80s, from a generation and culture that was more traditional, understood and supported it in seconds.”

In the latest episode of Diaries of a Doll, Ninh can be seen calmly correcting her grandmother's use of the pronoun "he." The clip went viral and was shared everywhere.

Ninh also revealed that she was not able to come out to her late mother, who had died of ovarian cancer back in 2018. Her grandmother's acceptance instantly filled an emotional need.

Kevin Ninh finds support in family

Ninh was greeted with love and support, despite her initial concerns about the reaction of her traditional Vietnamese-American family. She was most scared of her father, who was an immigrant Gen X parent. Talking about support, Kevin Ninh said:

“But I'm so blessed and grateful that everyone in my family loves and supports me and not a single person has any issue with me being trans.”

As a teenager, Kevin first told her mother that she was gay. She then went on to identify and live life through the lenses of non-binary experiences. This was at the age of 15, and as life went on, she moved further into the world of feminity as she pushed away from anything that was related to men.

She revealed that she has now, since March 2025, started taking estrogen hormone replacement therapy as she keeps her fans updated on this journey.

She said:

“I always considered transitioning, but the thought of that always scared me. Not everyone who's trans has to medically transition, but I thought about how long the journey would be mentally, physically, and financially, and wasn't sure if that was the path for me."

She continued:

“I settled in my femininity, eventually identified as non-binary, but over time I felt less comfortable with traditionally male markers such as he/him pronouns, sir, and Mr. It wasn't until the thought of transitioning excited me more than making me nervous – that's when I knew I was ready.”

She has had many inspirations, but one that really inspired her was the character of Cho Hyun-ju from the second season of Squid Game, who is also a transgender.

With a lifetime passion for telling stories and doing internet skits, Ninh is also excited to launch her acting career. She reveals that she competed in Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge in 2023 as Player 187.

Kevin Ninh said:

“I want to take it to traditional media and be that queer POC representation I've always wanted to see; just like when I saw the trans character on Squid Game for the first time.”

After taking classes for almost two years now, Kevin Ninh believes she is finally ready to take on this new career.

Kevin Ninh reflecting on her growth

Kevin Ninh, who is in her late 20s, has spoken about the strength she has acquired by accepting and embracing who she really is.

She told People:

“Now more than ever, I identify as a woman… I'm at a point in my life where I'm at the most in tune, confident and at peace with myself I've ever been."

Kevin continued:

“A lot of it had to do with just living life. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and experiencing new things, places, and people. I learned a lot about myself when I opened up to the world.”
