Who was Park In-soo? Pioneer of Korean soul music dies at 78

Korean singer Park In-soo died on August 18 at the age of 78. In-soo was famous for his songs, Spring Rain and Bell-bottoms. Some of his other hit songs included Doubtful Love, Punk Broadway, and Have You Ever Wept While Looking at the Stars?

He passed away from pneumonia, as per Chosen Biz. The news was confirmed by his family, who said in a statement:

"The deceased had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for a long time and passed away this morning after pneumonia worsened while receiving treatment at a university hospital in downtown Seoul."

However, the singer dealt with many health problems. In the past, he had Parkinson’s disease and hypoglycemia, and while his health kept declining, he also faced pancreatic cancer. His last song, titled Prepared Meeting, was released in 2013. It was written by composer Kim Joon.

Park In-soo was born in North Pyongan in 1947. He was separated from his mother during the Korean War. Later, he was adopted in the United States at the age of twelve. He later released the song Have You Ever Wept While Looking at the Stars? in the memory of her mother.

In the 1960s, In-soo joined Shin Joong-hyun’s band and also sang with the U.S. Eighth Army, which added to his recognition.

In 2012, he reunited with his ex-wife, Kwak Bok-hwa, on Human Theater and made a comeback with a jazz club performance in Mapo, after the health complications.

The news of his passing has left fans deeply saddened. Many are paying tribute to the legendary singer on social media.


In-soo is survived by his wife and son. His funeral has been arranged at Yeongdeungpo Hospital in Seoul, where family and friends will pay their respects.
