Little Mix's Perrie Edwards has announced that she and her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, are expecting their second child. She announced the pregnancy through a black and white video, where she is standing with her back to the camera in a white graphic shirt that says,
"If he wanted to, he would..."
She then turns around and reveals her baby bump. The rest of the phrase on the tee, which says, "...and He did." Perrie is then joined by Alex and their son, Axel.”
The couple had their first child, Axel, who turned 4 this year, in August 2021, while Perrie Edwards announced her pregnancy in May of the same year.
She wrote in the caption of her Instagram post at the time, “So happy to be on this wild journey with my soulmate. Me + Him = You 🌎♥️ We can’t wait to meet you baby Ox!”
Perrie Edwards opens up about her miscarriages
Perrie Edwards recently, just before announcing her second pregnancy, opened up about her miscarriages before and after having Axel.
Perrie explained, "I haven't necessarily not shared it with people because I'm ashamed of it or anything. It's just that it's such a personal thing to go through, and it's really hard."
She had a miscarriage during her first pregnancy very early. Edwards found out about it after she went to the hospital, where they told her there was no baby, which she misinterpreted.
"And I remember going in to see my gynecologist after with the reports, and I was like, 'Can you just explain to me? So there was no baby?' He was like, 'No no no, my darling, you've had a miscarriage.' And I was like, 'Oh. Okay.'"
A year after the pair welcomed Axel, she got pregnant again, but due to her past experiences, she was quite on edge.
"I found out when I was rehearsing for the last Little Mix tour," she said. "I was at rehearsals and I thought, 'Oh, I don't feel good.' Every symptom under the sun. I was like, 'I think I'm pregnant.'"
They kept the pregnancy a secret; however, she faced quite a lot of issues.
"So with this pregnancy, I remember being on tour and every night before a show, I kept bleeding," Edwards explained. "I was like heavy bleeding. I remember sitting thinking, 'This is it. I've lost the baby. It's happening."
But when she consulted the doctor, Perrie found out the baby is fine, but there is a "blood clot around the sac."
Things were fine until she went for her 20-week scan, which was technically a 22-week scan, where she realised something might be wrong based on her doctor's reaction.
"I just looked at Alex and I thought, 'Something's not right.' And then I remember sitting down, and I remember [the doctor] just saying these things. But I don't remember what he said, she said,"
Perrie Edwards then added, "And yeah, we basically lost the baby at 24 weeks. So I think I was just traumatized. It's weird because the first time it happened, I think because it's so early, I was like, 'Oh. That's sad.' But I think when you're fully carrying and you're 24 weeks and you've planned out their room and all these things, it's really hard."
Perrie Edwards and Alex got engaged in 2022.
