Schlep is a 22-year-old YouTube personality who focuses his gameplay and streams on Roblox, a popular game amongst young teens. He has over 600,000 subscribers and is known for confronting alleged predators in attempts to bring them to justice.
While the YouTuber has recently made the claim that his continued efforts over the past year alone have contributed towards arresting 6 predators, on August 10, Schlep shared via X that Roblox had issued a cease and desist letter accusing him of multiple violations of its Terms of Use and Community Standards.
The company cited several breaches of their safety systems from Schlep’s activities that they assert exposed their users to greater danger. Their letter read,
“While Roblox acknowledges that your stated intentions may be to protect children, and while it recognizes the serious nature of online predatory behavior, your methods, including failing to immediately report suspicious activity to Roblox through proper channels, are actively interfering with Roblox’s established safety protocols and, critically, are exposing Roblox’s users to increased risk.”
Schlep has responded by denying the allegations and accusing the company of engaging in damage control instead of rooting out the problem at its core.
Schlep Fires Back at Roblox
Schlep eventually took to X on August 24 to clear up any misconceptions about his actions.
“I am not a vigilante. I report my findings to law enforcement and Roblox. What’s shocking is that police consistently find enough evidence to bring criminal charges, yet in multiple instances Roblox refuses to take action until the situation is made public.”
Then, recently, in response to severe community backlash on Schlep’s behalf, Roblox fired another shot at the YouTuber, in a statement that made the nationally televised news. It read as follows,
“Taking the law into your own hands isn’t safe in the real world and it’s not safe online. That’s why we work with law enforcement to hold bad actors accountable. Many experts agree independent actors impersonating others and luring users to other platforms for s**ually explicit conversations can never be safe.”
Schlep, the 'predator hunter’, was quick to retweet a screenshot of Roblox’s statement, including his take on the situation at hand,
“Roblox just made another statement to the media repeating the same sentiment “that I’m taking the law into my own hands.” How is handing the information to the cops, them making arrests, “taking the law into my own hands”. This is NOT True. Stop lying about me”
During this back-and-forth situation, a petition demanding Roblox CEO David Baszucki's resignation was established online and has surpassed 250,000 signees.
