Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov has reportedly been arrested on charges of kidnapping and third-degree assault.

According to ESPN, the 25-year-old surrendered to the Denver police on Wednesday for what they are calling a domestic violence incident. He allegedly kicked his girlfriend in the chest and dragged her by her hair. He also allegedly told her that if this were Russia, he would have assaulted her more.

In a press conference later that night, authorities revealed a few details about the incident, though the identity of Semyon Varlamov’s girlfriend remains unclear. His attorney, Jack Rotole, has yet to issue a statement on his behalf. However, he told The Associated Press that he would be talking to the judge about the probable cause affidavit.

The Avalanche has since issued a statement acknowledging the allegations, though it refrained from commenting further until the investigation comes to an end. Just before he surrendered at 6 p.m., Semyon Varlamov practiced with his team, CBC has reported. He showed up in court the following morning.

Sgt. Steve Warneke was asked if Varlamov would be given celebrity treatment, to which he said:

"I don't know what happens once they get to Denver Sheriff's, if they do any particulars for high profile, in regards to keeping them safe. I do know we consider every criminal prosecution equally important," Warneke said. "We're concerned about the rights of the victim, the rights of everybody involved. Our goal every time is to provide everybody with a fair and balanced opportunity to go through the judicial system without corrupting that through releasing things that could jeopardize any sort of criminal case."

Semyon Varlamov joined the team back in 2011 after a trade with Washington and is reportedly 7-1 this season with a 1.76 goals-against average. He was expected at this Friday night’s game, though his backup, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, is likely to fill in.

The Washington Post reported back in November 2013 that Semyon Varlamov had been accused of domestic abuse in the past as well. At the time, he was arrested after his girlfriend, Evgeniya Vavrinyuk, echoed claims that he had beaten her in the chest. It is currently unclear if it was the same girlfriend.

However, he played a match later that week, following which he alluded to his legal troubles in a press conference:

"Life is life. You got to stay focused on your job," he said at the time, according to the outlet. "You got to stay focused on what you're doing. It doesn't matter what's happening in life."

As of this writing, however, he has yet to acknowledge the latest allegations against him.
