Legendary Hawaiian shaper and surfer Ben Aipa's grandson Kolby Aipa has reportedly passed away in a tragic e-bike accident. According to Stab Magazine, Kolby was reportedly on his way home from the Snapt 5 premiere in Huntington Beach. The news outlet reported that Kolby was put on life support, and a GoFundMe was launched to cover the costs of the treatment.
Aipa Surf and Kolby Aipa's family penned down an emotional note and confirmed the news of his passing on Instagram on August 6. Describing it as the "hardest post" they would ever write, they noted that they are "heartbroken" since Kolby's passing.
They expressed gratitude towards everyone who supported the family and their "sweet boy" after his accident.

Kolby Aipa was a promising talent from the Huntington Beach community and had recently been promoted to a store manager at Huntington Surf and Sport. As a lineage of Ben Aipa, a legendary shaper who reportedly created the Sting design, Kolby was fondly following the family's footsteps.
The Aipa Surf family paid tribute to their young surf star and wrote,
"Kolby always had a way with touching the lives of whoever he met. His acts of kindness and caring was his gift of Aloha to friends and strangers alike. To everyone that reads this... pass his Aloha on. So, how Kolby treated you, treat others in that same way..."
They added,
"In this you are continuing his legacy of Aloha. And you too can be like Kolby. Remember him and tell the world that #iamkolby"
Fellow surfer and Kolby's friend, Kuio Young (@kuioyoung), also took to his Instagram stories to pay tribute and described him as "respectful, kind, and humble."
Kolby's mother, Val, spoke to Stab Magazine about their grief and warned others of the potential "dangers" of e-bikes. She shared a message to parents and guardians,
"Parents, encourage your kids and even your 20-year-olds to practice safety, wear helmets, and don’t treat these dangerous bikes as toys…because accidents will happen. Don’t be afraid to put your foot down, because you just may save your child’s life.”
